Hurricane Gustav passed through the area last night, knocking out power and causing property damage according to reports.
Gustav was downgraded to a tropical storm over the course of last night, as it continued to dump rain on the state of Louisiana. According to Weather.

In an effort to assist the evacuation effort, Grambling State University has opened its Intramural Center and the city has opened its Community Center for evacuees. The Intramural Center was previously set up for Xavier students, but they did not come for reasons unknown.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has issued an executive order to close various (K-12) school districts as a result of tropical storm-Gustav making its way into the Gulf coast region.
Thirty-two school districts have been announced for closure Tuesday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 3 including Lincoln Parish.
