Nicholls men's head basketball coach J.P. Piper released his 2008-2009, schedule on Monday, Sept. 22, which includes three consecutive games against Southeastern Conference opponents as well as 14 games in Stopher gym and a Thanksgiving tournament in Illinois.
The Nicholls volleyball team played Sept. 17 in their first match in 11 days losing to the University of New Orleans Privateers. With a loss and falling to 1-6 on the season, head coach Chris Laird has a positive outlook for his team. "This was just a good opportunity for us to face some great competition," Laird said.
Sophomore Brandon Kotzur said he is ready to start off the 2008 cross country season. As a freshman, Kotzur led his team with his times and placed the highest of his team at the Rajun Cajun Invite. Kotzur also led his team in the Southland Conference Cross Country Championship.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nicholls and Memphis were knotted with 10 each at halftime, but the Tigers out-scored the Colonels 21-0 in the second half to get their first win of the 2008 season in front of 22,167 in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Nicholls' only touchdown came in the second quarter when sophomore Kyle Hughes blocked a Memphis field goal that senior Lardarius Webb returned 70-yards for the score.
In their second meet of the 2008 season, the Nicholls cross country teams ran hard at the 20th annual Crimson Classic Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama. "Overall, our women's team has a long way to go but we do have a very solid foundation in some of our front runners," head coach Scott Williamson said.
