Payroll system change causes tax withholding issues

Some faculty and staff members are seeing more federal and state tax money withheld from their paychecks after the University converted its payroll to a new software system last month. "This is not a result of anyone getting a pay cut," Mike Naquin, assistant vice president for finance and controller, said.

Fumes from renovations in Peltier Hall pose no threat

University administrators said students were not at risk from the fumes that circulated through Peltier Hall last week as a result of the renovations in the building. Mike Davis, assistant vice president for administration, said fumes from spray paint and oil-based primer circulated through Peltier's main air conditioning system after doors leading to Peltier Auditorium were left open last Monday morning.

Book loans help students in a bind

The Student Government Association Senate revised the book loan program, designed to help students get their textbooks, which had not been used for several years. Last fall, $3,075 was loaned out to students. This year more than $13,210 was loaned out to more than 28 students.

Career Services office to offer practice tests

University Career Services is offering a variety of tools to help graduating students meet the demands of today's employers, including free practice tests Saturday in Powell and Ayo Halls. Career Services is a department on campus that aids students in developing effective job search skills, locating possible part-time or full-time employment and gives them the chance to take practice tests that they may be required to complete before entering a job field.

KNSU to hold Saints pep rally

KNSU is throwing a pep-rally for Nicholls' Saints fans Thursday at 11:30 a.m. between the NSU Bookstore and Talbot Hall. KNSU staff and volunteers will play Saints music for the students. In addition, KNSU will have a "Best Saints Fan" competition. "[Thibodaux community businesses] have donated a few hundred dollars worth in prizes," Lance Arnold, KNSU adviser, said.

Nicholls Players present 'The Diviners' after 'Streetcar' fallout

The Nicholls Players will return to the stage this spring with a presentation of "The Diviners," the first play to be held since the cancelation of the fall performance of "A Streetcar Named Desire." The play, which will run about two hours, not including the intermission, opens March 18 in Talbot Theatre.
