SGA president's letter considered disappointing and inappropriate

Dear Nicholls Worth Editor,
In regards to Alexander Barnes' letter, "Questions raised about candidate," in last week's publication, I would like to express my disappointment in Barnes' inappropriate tone and forward message.
I expected more from his attempt to "give students a chance to make an educated decision," since Barnes is the president of the Student Government Association, leading representation for the student body and 2008 Mr. Nicholls.
With his caliber of leadership experience and current elected position, I believe that his opinions should have aimed to positively affect Nicholls and more importantly express his genuine desire to serve Nicholls. Unfortunately, Barnes' letter did none of these things.
I ask, what was the intended purpose of his letter: discredit the vice president serving directly under him, and therefore, shed light on his own ineffective leadership, or indirectly support the opposing candidate? Why weren't Marquita Christy's accomplishments and leadership ability mentioned? Whatever his true intention, I believe that it could have been reached more tactfully.
You see, in Nicholls' values, leadership is defined as being "good stewards and representatives of the University because we value our collective role as a regional leader and model for all we serve." Had Barnes reflected on this core principle of Nicholls before submitting his letter, I believe he would have portrayed a very different message.
As a member of the student body, I ask that future leaders of the student government strive to live more closely to its mission to being "dedicated to serving, representing and unifying the student body of Nicholls."
